Aniruddha’s Bank for the Blind
A bank with a difference set out to make a difference- the ‘Aniruddha’s Bank for the Blind’ equips visually challenged students, who are keen and persistent to opt for secure education. This is a unique concept wherein a textbook is read out and audio-recorded and then distributed in the form of CDs across schools and colleges.
This noble project was conceptualized by Dr Aniruddha Dhairyadhar Joshi, who has often said, “We are unknowingly indebted to the society we live in, and it cannot be disclaimed. It is only, therefore, by lending a helping hand to the needy that, we can repay the debt and perform selfless service for God's children."
The huge success of this project can be gauged by the fact that the CDs for various syllabus have been distributed across 29 States and 7 Union Territories. Moreover, the popularity of this project has reached beyond the national boundaries of India- we acceded to the request received for the CDs from Karachi, Pakistan as well.
This project has created a channel for homemakers and keen contributors to engage in community service and help uplift the students, who choose to see the bright side of life. These contributors record audio books from their homes, which are then distributed to the schools and charitable institutions, such as ‘The Kamala Mehta School for the Blind’ and ‘The Victoria School for the Blind’ in the form of e-audiobooks and CDs.
Ever since the inception of ‘Aniruddha’s Bank for the Blind’ in 2004, 16,000 CDs and 30,000 audio cassettes have been distributed across India and beyond! Until 2017, about 35,000 blind students had been the beneficiaries of this project.
