Pulse Polio Vaccination

Polio, also known as infantile paralysis is a disease caused due to the poliovirus. This infectious disease results in muscle weakness, which causes an inability to move in the children, who are up to 5 years of age. Thus, the Government of India initiated the Pulse Polio Vaccination Campaign to eliminate polio in India, wherein children below six years of age are administered polio vaccine.

In 2003, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation requested our Academy to provide volunteers for this campaign. Ever since, our volunteers participate in this campaign alongside the government bodies for assistance.

This campaign is carried out on a Sunday. Our volunteers are present at the polio booths, which are located near the railway stations or densely populated localities. The government provides the necessary material to our volunteers, who work alongside the doctors and guide them regarding the vaccination. Our volunteers from across Mumbai and even from regions of Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali and Navi Mumbai have participated in this noble campaign, which aims to cover maximum children and rid them of the polio disease.
